Quick Reference
Step 1: Choose Your Creed
Your Creed defines your approach to hunting the supernatural. It shapes how you view monsters, what methods you use, and what drives you to continue the Vigil.
You fund and equip the Hunt using money, influence, and connections. Resources win battles.
Your spiritual conviction grants you genuine supernatural power against the darkness.
You study and research the supernatural. Know your enemy better than they know themselves.
You confront monsters head-on with combat training and tactical expertise.
You operate from the shadows, using street connections and covert methods to hunt.
Step 2: Choose Your Edges
Edges are supernatural abilities you develop through the Vigil. Unlike monsters, hunters earn these powers through determination and experience. You start with 2 Edges.
Step 3: Distribute Attributes
Distribute 7/5/3 dots across attribute categories. These use the same system as other World of Darkness 5th Edition games.
Step 4: Distribute Skills
Distribute 11/7/4 dots across skill categories. No skill above 4 at creation.
The Cost of the Hunt
Desperation builds as hunts become more dangerous. You can spend it to fuel Edges and push yourself beyond normal limits. But too much Desperation risks Despair, a breaking point where fear and trauma threaten to end your hunt.
Hunters work in cells, small groups of trusted allies. Your cell is your lifeline. Together you plan hunts, share resources, and watch each other for signs of Despair.
Like Kindred, hunters have Touchstones, mortals who keep them grounded. These are the people you protect, the reasons you fight. Losing them can push you toward Despair.
