Stealth (Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition)

Skills

Definition

Stealth represents your ability to move without being detected—hiding, sneaking, and avoiding notice. In Call of Cthulhu, where confrontation often means death, Stealth can be more valuable than combat skills. Stealth covers both hiding in place and moving silently. It's opposed by Spot Hidden or Listen, depending on whether the observer is using sight or sound.

How it works

**Base Value**: 20% **Common Rolls**: - Sneaking past guards - Following someone undetected - Hiding from enemies - Moving silently through dangerous areas **Opposed By**: Spot Hidden (visual), Listen (auditory) **Modifiers**: Darkness helps, open areas hurt. Carrying equipment may penalize.

Tips

**Avoid, Don't Fight**: Many Mythos threats can't be fought. Stealth lets you observe without engaging. **Scouting**: Send the stealthy investigator ahead to assess danger. **Escape Route**: When things go wrong, Stealth can get you out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hide from Mythos creatures?

Sometimes. Some Mythos creatures have supernatural senses that bypass normal Stealth. Others can be evaded normally. The Keeper decides based on the creature's abilities.

Does movement affect Stealth?

Yes, moving is generally harder than hiding in place. Running while being stealthy is very difficult or impossible.
