CON (Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition)

Characteristics

Definition

Constitution represents your investigator's health, stamina, and physical resilience. It determines how much punishment your body can absorb, how well you resist disease and poison, and how quickly you recover from injuries. In Call of Cthulhu, CON is rolled on 3d6×5 and is a key component of your Hit Points (calculated from CON + SIZ). Given the physical dangers investigators face—from cultist attacks to environmental hazards to the sheer physical toll of fleeing cosmic horrors—Constitution can be the difference between surviving an investigation and dying in a ditch.

How it works

**Generation**: Roll 3d6×5 (range 15-90) **Derived Stats**: - **Hit Points**: (CON + SIZ) ÷ 10 (rounded down) - **Consciousness**: At 0 HP you fall unconscious; death occurs at negative HP equal to your HP total **Hard/Extreme**: CON÷2 and CON÷5 for difficulty levels **Uses**: Resisting poison and disease, endurance checks, recovering from injury, surviving drowning and suffocation

Tips

**When CON Matters**: Every investigator benefits from decent CON since it directly affects Hit Points. Investigators expecting physical danger should prioritize it. **Survival Stat**: CON determines how long you can hold your breath, resist hypothermia, fight off infection, and endure physical hardship. It's the quiet workhorse of survival.

Frequently asked questions

How does CON affect Hit Points?

Hit Points equal (CON + SIZ) ÷ 10. A CON of 60 and SIZ of 50 gives 11 HP. Even a few extra points of CON can mean one more hit before going down.

When do I roll CON?

CON rolls resist poison, disease, drowning, suffocation, extreme temperatures, and exhaustion. The Keeper calls for CON rolls whenever your body's endurance is tested.
