Local expert (Cyberpunk RED)

Skills

Definition

Local Expert represents intimate knowledge of a specific area—its geography, people, businesses, secrets, and culture. Every Night City neighborhood has its own character, power structures, and unwritten rules, and Local Expert means you know them from living there. Local Expert uses your INT stat and is purchased separately for each area you know. You might have Local Expert (Little China) and Local Expert (Heywood) as separate skills at different levels. This knowledge includes knowing shortcuts and back alleys, recognizing local faces, understanding the neighborhood's power dynamics, knowing which businesses are fronts, where the safe houses are, and what areas to avoid at night. It's the difference between a tourist and a local—and in Night City, tourists get eaten alive. For edgerunners, deep local knowledge means knowing escape routes, safe houses, friendly businesses, and potential ambush points in your operating area.

How it works

**Linked Stat**: INT **Key Uses**: - Knowing neighborhood geography and shortcuts - Understanding local power structures and politics - Recognizing local faces and businesses - Finding local resources, contacts, and safe houses **Additional**: Local Expert is purchased separately for each area. Your home area typically starts at a higher level. It's more specific than Streetwise, which covers broad street knowledge.

Tips

**Build Advice**: Essential to have for your character's home turf. Consider adding your crew's primary operating area if it differs. **Synergies**: Pairs with Streetwise for complementary knowledge—broad street smarts plus deep local intel. Education provides book knowledge where Local Expert provides lived experience. **Character Concepts**: Neighborhood native, beat cop who knows their district, community organizer, long-time resident who's seen everything in their area.
