Science (Cyberpunk RED)

Skills

Definition

Science represents your understanding of scientific principles and technical fields—chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and other academic disciplines. In the Time of the Red, scientific knowledge powers everything from cyberware development to combat drug synthesis, from forensic analysis to understanding experimental weapons. Science uses your INT stat and covers formal scientific knowledge. While Education gives you broad general knowledge, Science provides deep understanding of how things work at a technical level. You can analyze unknown substances, understand biological threats, recognize experimental technology, and apply scientific reasoning to solve problems. In Night City, where biotechnology, nanotechnology, and cybernetics push the boundaries of science daily, this knowledge has practical and sometimes life-saving applications. Understanding the chemistry behind a combat drug, the physics of an experimental weapon, or the biology of a engineered plague can mean the difference between solving a problem and becoming a victim of it.

How it works

**Linked Stat**: INT **Key Uses**: - Analyzing unknown chemical substances - Understanding biological threats and bioweapons - Recognizing and understanding experimental technology - Applying scientific reasoning to solve technical problems **Additional**: Science is a broad skill covering multiple scientific fields. The GM may adjust difficulty based on how specialized the question is relative to your character's background.

Tips

**Build Advice**: Most valuable for characters with technical or academic backgrounds. Pairs well with other INT-based skills for a knowledge-focused build. **Synergies**: Works with Education for complete academic coverage. Library Search helps you research scientific topics. Cybertech and other Tech skills apply your knowledge practically. **Character Concepts**: Corporate researcher, forensic analyst, combat drug chemist, biotech specialist, ripperdoc with academic background.

Frequently asked questions

Does Science replace other technical skills?

No. Science is theoretical knowledge—understanding how things work. Technical skills like Cybertech and Weaponstech are practical skills—actually building and repairing things. You might use Science to understand a problem and a Tech skill to fix it.
