Strength (Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary)
Definition
Strength measures a mage's raw physical power, from lifting heavy objects to delivering devastating blows. For Awakened characters, Strength represents the body's potential before any magical enhancement. Many mages neglect Strength in favor of mental pursuits, but the Ascension War has a way of reminding them that reality sometimes demands brute force. In M20, Strength matters when fists fly and doors need breaking. A Verbena blood-witch grappling a Nephandi cultist, an Akashic Brother delivering a Do strike, or a Virtual Adept hauling server equipment to a new safehouse all rely on Strength. While Life magick can temporarily boost physical power, the Paradox cost means wise mages develop at least a baseline of natural capability.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Life magick instead of investing in Strength?
Life 3 can boost Strength temporarily, but this is vulgar magick if witnessed by Sleepers, generating Paradox. A solid natural Strength score avoids this problem and keeps your character functional even in anti-magic zones or when Quintessence runs dry.
How does Strength interact with Do martial arts?
Do (the Akashic martial art) uses Dexterity + Do for attack rolls but adds Strength to damage. High Strength makes Akashic strikes devastating, especially combined with Life-enhanced physical performance.
