Campaign
Campaign
Also known as: chronicle, saga
Definition
An ongoing series of connected game sessions with the same characters and storyline, often spanning months or years of real-world play.
How it works in different systems
Vampire V5: Called a 'Chronicle' - often more political/personal than combat-focused.
D&D 5e: Campaign often means a published adventure path or homebrew story.
Call of Cthulhu 7e: Campaigns are deadly - expect character turnover. Pulp Cthulhu is more heroic.
Example
“Our Curse of Strahd campaign ran for 18 months. We started as level 1 nobodies and ended as level 10 heroes who defeated the vampire lord.”
Origin & History
From military terminology. 'Chronicle' is used in World of Darkness games to emphasize story over combat.
