Wits (Hunter: The Reckoning 5th Edition)
Definition
Wits represents quick thinking, perception, situational awareness, and the ability to react to sudden changes. For hunters, Wits is the Attribute that keeps you alive in the field -- noticing the shadow that moved wrong, reacting before the ambush closes, and making split-second decisions that determine whether the cell survives. The supernatural is fast. Vampires can move faster than the eye can follow. Ghosts appear without warning. Werewolves strike from ambush. Wits is a hunter's ability to process these threats quickly enough to respond. It's the difference between dodging and getting hit, between noticing the trap and walking into it. Wits also governs the ability to detect deception, read a room, and improvise when plans fall apart -- which happens constantly on the Hunt. No operation survives first contact with the supernatural intact, and Wits determines how quickly you adapt.

How is Wits different from Intelligence?
Intelligence is deliberate reasoning and accumulated knowledge. Wits is speed of thought and instinctive reaction. You use Intelligence to research a vampire's history over days; you use Wits to notice the vampire standing behind you right now.
